In my on-going research on the forever epic Mary Worth cartoon, I have also run across numerous comic strip characters that were essential to my growing up in the 1980's. Why may I ask that Tiger, Barney Google & Snuffy Smith, and Redeye have been replaced with Tina's Groove, Crankshaft, and Close to Home?
I just thought the afore mentioned comics were discontinued and then replaced by lesser strips. No, the News Journal just chooses not to carry the classics. Simply put, I've been bamboozled.
In closing, let us not forget Sally Forth* and Rex Morgan, M.D.** when discussing Mary Worth. Prince Valiant in all its eerieness also falls into this category.
* - Rhymes with Mary Worth, huh?
** - Believed to be a favorite of Mr. and Mrs. Munther, M.D.
