Hello everyone!
Last week's work in Page, AZ was a ballbuster. The thermometer flirted with 100F every day we were there, working on the rock cliffs that over look the Glen Canyon Dam and the Little Colorado river. I sweat way too much and all the bullcrap about "oh, it's a dry heat" is WRONG. HOT IS HOT.
As if reducing my body's water content to 56% over the week wasn't enough, I signed up to go on a weekend trip to Zion National Park in southern Utah. I'm not the REAL outdoorsy type so camping is a strech for me, especially when I am not required to do it. I slept two night in the Utah desert, getting sub-par sleep. Saturday's trip to Zion was somewhat cool. It is a really pretty national park and the group (19 of us) hiked this trail called "Angel's Landing." Now I'm not the expert on how high angels can fly or what they like to do for recreation, but a 2.5 mile hike covering 1500(?) vertical feet is that cool. Heck, once we neared the summit, the trail virtually disappeared and a series of chain tow ropes appeared. It was a demanding climb and I'm happy I did it. I wouldn't do it again. I've got some blisters and a body water content to now 57.9%. The nine hours sleep last night in a REAL bed wasn't nearly enough.
Speaking of last night, John Kerry came to town for a rally. Now intitially I thought people were talking about Jim Carrey coming to town and I thought that was great because he early work in film is good. Well, it was the presidential candidate Kerry instead. He was supposed to show up at 9-930pm only to be a diva and have his party train pull into the station at 10:30pm. The scene downtown where it was being held was panda-monium! I shot about half a roll of film down there but left way before Kerry showed. His arrivial kept Mikkel (denmark) and I from getting across the tracks for about 45 minutes. Thanks John Kerry for ruining my nightlife.
The best idea of the evening was getting pizza before going to see Kerry. If I didn't have pizza, I probably would've been even more sarcastic - Like making fun of the guy who's Pro-Kerry sign had "KERRY" spelled "KERY" only with a "r" placed after the "R" (KERrY). There was a mass congregation of beards, long-hairs, and dread-heads. If was was shooting digital, I would've nailed so many weird looking people.
Speaking of digital, I am eyeballing the Canon A75 digital camera as a potential mate to my Minolta Maxxum. My L.A. friend, Lily has one and ensures me it's the all-round best camera because she did the work researching them. I took a few evening shots with it over the weekend and got some sweet pictures of some people playing soccer with a beautiful sunset as the background. I don't want to say it, but digital seems cool now. Everyone here has a digital camera, almost everyone.
I'll be working out of Flagstaff these next two weeks so anyone can feel free to call me on my cellphone - I've got reception.
I need to get going now because there is laundry to do, banking to do, lunch, and filing a police report*.
* - it's for my Japanese friend, Mikiko who lost her only creditcard in Utah over the weekend and has no more than $5 to her name. If I didn't like her so much, I wouldn't have given her all of my money.
