It looks ugly, but I've given you access to my blogger archives. Chances are that I won't be changing the appearance of the archive links. Enjoy.

I am home. When I say home, I am referring to Mansfield, OHIO. I touched down in Port Columbus at 630pm last night. After being up for over 40 straight hours, I crashed at midnight and it was great to sleep in my own bed again.

I haven't posted here in over a week and this past week was full of adventure. Since I've told just about everyone about my last week either by email or face-to-face, I'm just going to re-hash the facts.

Facts
Monday - finally was able to leave for the Grand Canyon to begin work on the South Bass Trail after a 9-day weekend.

Tuesday - Hiked with Supervisor Gavin (Australia), Mikkel (Denmark), and Mikio (Japan) 5 miles down into the canyon to do survey work. Beautiful scenery! Later that day Mikkel, Mikio, Daniel (Sweden), and I were chased by some wild Javelinas. Use your family encyclopedia to see a Javelina.

Wednesday - Trail work in the rain. I supervised a crew of 5 people. Lots of walking again. Quit work early due to the rain. The rain changed to snow overnight.

Thursday - Awoke to 8 inches of snow on the ground. Attempted to leave campsite for home in Flagstaff. Vans became stuck in mud after only 5 of 29 miles driven. Advised to hike back to camp for safety. Informed help would not come for two days. We slept 18 people in one safari tent, too crowded.

Friday - Hiked with Mikkel back to vans, taking up the morning. Very boring sitting around camp. Lots of sun, melting snow. Our "rescue" would be coming at 430am Saturday morning.

Saturday - Awoke at 3am to break-down camp and be rescued. Got to drive a van back, very muddy, total rally driving.

So that's my week at the Grand Canyon. I stayed up all night so I wouldn't miss my 430am bus to Phoenix airport. My night included free tequila shots, "flaming Dr. Pepper," beer, laughs, Halloween, and good friends. I had an incredible time over the past fourteen weeks. I've made so many new friends from all over the world and chances are that I'll meet some of them again. I'm tired right now and the fact that I'm sitting here in Mansfield is still a little surreal. Surreal, that's the word that describes my situation as of now. I missed Ohio, now I miss Flagstaff.
