thanks to Lily for her pictures!

Now that I have the ability to use Imageshack to post pictures, I am going to REALLY post some pictures.

Right now I am in the process of defeating a serious headcold and procrastinating from doing my 3 weeks worth of laundry.

News: I am staying here in Flagstaff longer, like four weeks longer. I am planning on coming home October 2nd.

It's been a fairly quiet weekend here in FLG, I felt no need to go on the overnight trip to the Grand Canyon. There's hiking involved and this dude is NOT for that.

Las Vegas last Sunday and Monday was cool and by that, I mean totally sweet. We rocked the four hour drive with Junior Senior as my co-pilot. Yes, the sun does rise in Vegas. I saw it because bedtime wasn't until 6am.

Bad News: Last night I went to the cinema with Connie (GER) and Myriam (LUX). We saw "Open Water," that "supposed" thriller of a movie about two people stranded in the ocean with sharks. Ok, there were sharks for like 5 minutes (the movie itself was 70 minutes) and they were not impressive. I rank this movie as the WORST movie I have ever seen. Worse than the "Blair Witch Project" and that's a lot.
The three of us found ourselves staring at a blank screen for five minutes once the closing credits were over, repeating the words, how much did we pay to see this?. If my monkey math is correct, we paid a little over US$1 per 10 minutes of film. BAD FILM. The New York Times and Rolling Stone are dead wrong in their reviews of this movie. We've been suckered and I am happy that we told the people waiting for the next showing that it sucked. They went and changed their tickets. I wish I could do that.

The Other Hand: Two weekends ago we saw "The Village." It's from that M. Night Shambalama guy. I liked this movie. It was clever and sharp. Too bad "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable" sucked so bad. I recommend this movie. I've seen too many movies since I've been here. I feel like a Shiposh.

Tomorrow we're all going to Las Vegas for an over-night trip!

This past week was both and good and bad one.

Bad: lost one pair of sunglasses, lost my watch, lost my camera (but later it was found 3 days later), cd player ruined by rain from a leaking roof.

Good: found my camera, ate mexican food, worked fun and hard.

I became a "certified" cowboy on Thursday when I learned how to unpack a trail horse. My buddy Cerille and I found a skull the same day as well. We took it home to the house. I'm thinking about extending my stay here for maybe another 2-3 weeks. I'll have about a week to figure it out.

A sigh of relief goes to Keith and his graduation.

When you work 7-5 and the library closes at 6, it's tough to post a decent blog.
Sorry for my picture not working for my last post. I'm working on getting that fixed. Last Saturday night was a going-away party for some of the "veteran" volunteers. All I can really remember is calling Keith from a pizza place, leaving a message that said, we're ordering a pepperoni pizza with pepperoni.; lying on the front porch wrapped in a tent and talking til 3:30 in the morning. dangit.

Hello everyone!

Last week's work in Page, AZ was a ballbuster. The thermometer flirted with 100F every day we were there, working on the rock cliffs that over look the Glen Canyon Dam and the Little Colorado river. I sweat way too much and all the bullcrap about "oh, it's a dry heat" is WRONG. HOT IS HOT.
As if reducing my body's water content to 56% over the week wasn't enough, I signed up to go on a weekend trip to Zion National Park in southern Utah. I'm not the REAL outdoorsy type so camping is a strech for me, especially when I am not required to do it. I slept two night in the Utah desert, getting sub-par sleep. Saturday's trip to Zion was somewhat cool. It is a really pretty national park and the group (19 of us) hiked this trail called "Angel's Landing." Now I'm not the expert on how high angels can fly or what they like to do for recreation, but a 2.5 mile hike covering 1500(?) vertical feet is that cool. Heck, once we neared the summit, the trail virtually disappeared and a series of chain tow ropes appeared. It was a demanding climb and I'm happy I did it. I wouldn't do it again. I've got some blisters and a body water content to now 57.9%. The nine hours sleep last night in a REAL bed wasn't nearly enough.
Speaking of last night, John Kerry came to town for a rally. Now intitially I thought people were talking about Jim Carrey coming to town and I thought that was great because he early work in film is good. Well, it was the presidential candidate Kerry instead. He was supposed to show up at 9-930pm only to be a diva and have his party train pull into the station at 10:30pm. The scene downtown where it was being held was panda-monium! I shot about half a roll of film down there but left way before Kerry showed. His arrivial kept Mikkel (denmark) and I from getting across the tracks for about 45 minutes. Thanks John Kerry for ruining my nightlife.
The best idea of the evening was getting pizza before going to see Kerry. If I didn't have pizza, I probably would've been even more sarcastic - Like making fun of the guy who's Pro-Kerry sign had "KERRY" spelled "KERY" only with a "r" placed after the "R" (KERrY). There was a mass congregation of beards, long-hairs, and dread-heads. If was was shooting digital, I would've nailed so many weird looking people.
Speaking of digital, I am eyeballing the Canon A75 digital camera as a potential mate to my Minolta Maxxum. My L.A. friend, Lily has one and ensures me it's the all-round best camera because she did the work researching them. I took a few evening shots with it over the weekend and got some sweet pictures of some people playing soccer with a beautiful sunset as the background. I don't want to say it, but digital seems cool now. Everyone here has a digital camera, almost everyone.
I'll be working out of Flagstaff these next two weeks so anyone can feel free to call me on my cellphone - I've got reception.
I need to get going now because there is laundry to do, banking to do, lunch, and filing a police report*.

* - it's for my Japanese friend, Mikiko who lost her only creditcard in Utah over the weekend and has no more than $5 to her name. If I didn't like her so much, I wouldn't have given her all of my money.

It's Tuesday yet I still have Internet access. My work crew started our project here in Flagstaff and that was a good thing. The work was gathering 100+ pound rocks to repair some steps carved into the side of a cliff in Page, AZ (2- 2.5 hours north).

My Sunday and Monday was fun. Chinese buffet, pizza & ice cream, learning Japanese, etc. I may or have may not made the mistake for falling for the Japanese girl, Mikiko. I dunno, I just like being around her.

Gotta go make tacos for dinner!

"Stinking up the Great Outdoors"

From the sound of it, I haven't missed jack squat since my departure from Ohio. In a way that's a good thing. I could go on typing for miles about my past 8 days and every little minute detail pertaining to the people in the program. I won't because I need to go to the bathroom - FAST.

oh-k,
There are roughly 50 people volunteering their sweet time this summer and only 2 people come from AMERICA. well, that is if you count Los Angeles as being part of AMERICA. I have just enough cultural trouble with California people as I do with the French (but I am le tired) and Japanese (Pokemon).
My NEW best friends are:

Mikkel from Denmark - I worked with him last week at the Grand Canyon and he's taken Keith's place for the next coming weeks. Sorry Keith, it's not you, it's the distance.

Martin from Austria - I get a kick out of his English and love teaching him Ohio-talk

Mikiko from Japan (duh) - she had me at hello, ha.

Kristina from Sweden - probably a better English speaker than myself, gave me cocaine/laundry powder

Miriam from Germany - very fun person with the best European laugh (minus Hitler's if you ever heard his)

Mikio from Japan - this little dude can't speak the best of English but he's got Dragonball Z hair and likes skateboarding.

Josh from England - dude hasn't shaved in six weeks (beard is comparable to mine after 2-3 weeks) and didn't take a shower the entire time we were at Grand Canyon. how can you not love that?

Yesterday a group of us drove to Penix, home of the Farenheit holocaust (104 degrees) to drop some kids of at the airport and then went to some thrift store, electronics store (got a new cd/mp3 player), and hit up the IHOP.

Today is looking like swimming, laundry, Internet, drinking a 32oz. Mississippi Mud (dark + light beer in a brown jug. the jug has an aligator on it, how can we not drink this?). Yes, being around so many europeans has raised my Alcohol Tolerance Points up +2 and my Hit Points +1. Just good times and even after one week, I highly recommend this program.
So of you should get some letters eventually at hit me up with some MUSIC.
